INTERNSHIP & VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Job Description:

Sprouts Cooking Club is expanding its cooking classes and culinary events to NYC! We are looking for a standout individual to help build and execute our youth culinary programs on the East Coast. By working alongside leading chefs, restaurants, and markets in Manhattan and Brooklyn, you will be a key player in creating the culinary experiences that will shape the future generation of creative cooks and thoughtful eaters!

Your Role:

Alongside the Sprouts Founder and NYC Director, you will work closely to build, plan, and execute Sprouts’ cooking class programming in NYC. This will include scoping out restaurants and chefs for future partnerships, communicating with Sprouts restaurant partners to organize events, researching potential partners and pitching the Sprouts mission, and serving as a liaison between our communities of families, partners, and sponsors.

This is a unique opportunity to be on the ground floor of a culinary nonprofit that is starting up a new branch of programming in an exciting and diversified market. We will work with you individually to make sure that your skillset is highlighted and your goals for personal and professional growth are met!

As one of the initial NYC team members, your voice will be valued and your opinion heard. We will rely on your ideas, questions, and suggestions to create our NYC program structure. Whether your interests are in business, cooking, community impact, nutrition, leadership, or youth, we will develop tasks and roles for you that will highlight your passions. Let us help you brainstorm the best ways to maximize your time with us!

Sample Tasks:
  • Write and format flyers, newsletters, and blog posts to share upcoming events and cooking classes with our community
  • Communicate with parents, chefs, restaurants, and sponsors to plan events and organize ingredient donations
  • Create lesson plans and recipes for after-school cooking classes that range from Kindergarten to 8th grade
  • Stay up-to-date on food news, restaurant openings, and other relevant happenings in the NYC food community
  • Find creative ways to approach markets, farmers, and food organizations with the possibility of partnership
  • Research and reach out to local restaurants, chefs, markets, and farmers that would be good partners and sponsors for our cooking classes
  • Stay up-to-date on food news, restaurant openings, and other relevant happenings in the NYC food community
  • Work alongside the NYC Director to brainstorm unique ways to engage local sponsors and restaurants
Skills and Requirements:

The ideal candidate is familiar with the NYC food scene and has a strong interest in becoming engaged with restaurants, schools, and the local NYC community. You must be incredibly organized and able to keep a positive, productive attitude.

Preferable qualifications:

  • Strong writing, communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and social media platforms
  • Knowledge of the culinary scene in New York City, including restaurants, magazines, blogs, etc.
  • Passion for food, cooking, nutrition, and education
  • Focused independent worker who can also collaborate well with a team
  • Those majoring in food studies, communications, and writing are strongly encouraged to apply
Compensation:

$150 monthly stipend; school credit is available. A letter of recommendation from Sprouts NYC Director will be awarded upon completion of the internship.

As a Social Media Coordinator, you will be a key player in sharing and promoting the Sprouts culinary experiences that shape the future generation of creative cooks and thoughtful eaters.

Your Role:

You will be responsible for expanding our social network on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to help us connect with prominent chefs, restaurants, and food communities in NYC. This process will include researching local companies and businesses with missions that align with Sprouts, as well as engaging with our community of followers, fans, and foodies to share the events happening in NYC.

Professional Growth:

Sprouts is just starting up in NYC, and as a member of the team, you’ll have the opportunity to strongly influence our engagement with the local food community in Manhattan and Brooklyn, as you work to shape our voice, message, and social media presence in the NYC food scene. This is your chance to explore the culinary world in a unique and hands-on way; we’ll be relying on you to engage with chefs, magazines, restaurants, and organizations that are just as passionate about fresh food and culinary education as we are.

Job Description:

Want a summer full of exploring local restaurants and cooking with the city’s leading chefs? As a Culinary Camp Counselor, you will be able to delve into the delicious inner core of a culinary non-profit to gain on-the-ground experience executing this unique culinary programming. By the end of the summer, you will have developed new cooking skills, eaten a ton of delicious meals at your favorite restaurants, and made new friends with a slew of local chefs, curious kids, and like-minded team members. This is a chance for you to teach kids the cooking skills and nutrition information they’ll need to lead healthier lives.

Your Role:

As a Culinary Camp Counselor, you will be working directly with the NYC Director to run camp classes, farm days, and activities for our summer camp sessions, as you help facilitate the flow of daily logistics. You will have the opportunity to work right inside real restaurants with real chefs, visit local farms and markets, and get a taste of the culinary scene here in NYC. You will have a substantial influence on the experience of each camper, chef, and parent alike! The program manager, camp directors, and counselors will be in constant contact, meeting often and telephoning frequently so that communication stays strong.
The Summer Culinary Camp Counselors will have opportunities to develop and exercise leadership skills to execute the lesson plans, travel, and menus for each day. You’ll interact with parents, help create lesson plans, and potentially teach a class or two!
You also have the opportunity to lead an activity around a personal passion of yours: farming, composting, food waste — you name it! This individual intern project will give you the opportunity to be creative and further engage with our group of curious young chefs.

We will meet with you weekly to check-in and make sure that your skill sets are highlighted throughout the summer and that you continue to progress on your goals for personal and professional growth. Everyone has something to offer, and your opinion will be heard. Whether your interests are in business, cooking, community impact, nutrition, leadership, or youth, we will work with you to develop tasks and roles to keep you growing and engaged. Your Team:

In this role, you will be working very closely with our Summer Camp staff – the NYC Director, camp directors, and other summer camp interns. The team is a group of like-minded culinary and farming enthusiasts, excited about helping others through cooking wholesome foods and supporting local restaurants.

Skills and Requirements:
  • Strong organizational skills, high aptitude, strong interpersonal skills, interest in community, education, chefs, nutrition, and cooking.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Culinary skills and comfort in the kitchen.
  • Comfort and excitement for working with kids.
Commitments and Contract Period:
  • 5 camp days per week: 8:30am to 5:15pm (includes lunch break and daily recap with team)
  • 1 week commitment (July 9th – 27th)
  • Internship start date and end date are flexible, depending on circumstances
Compensation:

$150 stipend. You will gain valuable experience working with a successful, mission-driven nonprofit, all while serving the community with your contribution to Sprouts.

Job Description:

Sprouts Cooking Club is expanding its cooking classes and culinary events to NYC, and we’re looking for a standout team of assistants to shape and execute our culinary programs on the East Coast. As a Cooking Class Assistant for after-school classes, birthday parties, and family meal cooking classes, you will be a key player in creating the culinary experiences that shape the future generation of creative cooks and thoughtful eaters. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with the local community of families, chefs, and restaurants that have partnered with Sprouts to give kids from all backgrounds the opportunity to cook and eat healthy meals.

Your Role:

We need enthusiastic, food-savvy volunteers who are ready and eager to jump into the kitchen and lead cooking classes with kids ages seven to fourteen. A love for working with kids and experimenting with new recipes is a must. You will be responsible for leading students through a culinary lesson plan, ensuring kids stay safe in the kitchen, and maintaining a fun, friendly, and educational cooking environment. Sprouts NYC is a small nonprofit, and therefore, we’ll rely on your ideas and opinions to help us shape our culinary programs.

Professional Growth:

This is your chance to get hands-on in restaurant kitchens and school classrooms across the city as you take your passions for food, cooking, education to the next level. In addition to engaging with local communities of families and students, you will also have the chance to be in the city’s leading restaurants and learn from Manhattan’s top chefs in your role as Cooking Class Assistant.

Sample Tasks:
  • Lead After-School Cooking Classes for kids ages seven to fourteen, teaching basic knife skills, chopping techniques, and kitchen safety
  • Supervise groups of up to ten students during cooking classes in restaurant kitchens where classes are led by chefs of the restaurant
  • Lead cooking classes at birthday parties and create a fun, friendly, environment
  • Set up and clean up spaces in schools and home kitchens as part of prep for cooking events
Skills and Requirements:
  • Cooking experience and comfortability in the kitchen (formal culinary experience is not required)
  • Past experience working with kids
  • Organized, creative, and able to adapt to situations on the fly
  • Passion for education, cooking, nutrition, and teaching kids
  • Available weekdays in the afternoon and weekends. Cooking classes run 2-4 hours long.
Compensation:

This internship is unpaid; school credit is available. A letter of recommendation from Sprouts NYC Director will be awarded upon completion of the internship.

Freelance position with a time commitment of about three hours per class

Job Description:

Sprouts Cooking Club is expanding its cooking classes and culinary events to NYC, and we’re looking for a standout media team to build our presence on the East Coast. As a Food and Event Photographer, you will be a key player in capturing and promoting the culinary experiences that shape the future generation of creative cooks and thoughtful eaters.

Your Role:

As we introduce our culinary programming to families and restaurants in NYC, it is essential that we have high-quality, professional photos, which will be used in press releases, newsletters, social media, and blog posts. It will be your job to capture the essence of Sprouts’ cooking classes and events. Your photos will not only be shared with our community of fans and followers, but will also be passed along to our partner chefs, restaurants, and parents! In addition to attending events and cooking classes across the city, you will also be responsible for editing and sharing your photos with the NYC Director and the NYC marketing team.

Professional Growth:

This is an opportunity for you to jump in the action of the kitchen and capture the culinary creativity taking place among kids and chefs. Your images will be shared on our social media platforms and website (with 5,000+ followers); here, you will be credited for your work so that you can continue expanding your resume and experience.

Skills and Requirements:
  • Photography Major or other equivalent photography experience
  • Passion for food, kids, and cooking
  • Have access to a camera and editing software
  • Available on weekends with flexible hours
