Signed Alice Waters`Cookbook June 1- Aug 30 Along with camp counselor duties described below, the ingredient and purveyor liason will have the opportunity to network with local farmers, creameries, and gourmet grocers. The role includes soliciting for ingredients, transporting ingredients safely, and keeping an inventory. Access to an automobile is essential for this position.Interns will work at the Ferry Building, local restaurants, Whole Foods- Berkeley, and in gardens in San Francisco and Berkeley. This internship consists of 3 phases: Phase 1 (June 15- Jul 11) is a 10 hour work week commitment, with hours being allocated as the need arises. The focus will be on pre-camp prep, meetings with Sprouts` directors and summer camp manager, as well as soliciting for ingredients from local farms. Phase 2 (July 11- August 10) requires Camp Counselors to work from 8:15 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturdays there will be very light parent and counselor follow-up from the week. Counselors will be directly involved with the immediate execution of the camps and will facilitate the organization and flow of one. They will work with the other counselors and camp manager, write an orientation email to parents, ensure the flow of the chefs, and handle daily logistics such as ingredient checks and transportation of children from various sites. One of your largest responsibilities is to transport ingredients safely from the purveyor, to the site of the camp. This internship will include a wide range of both managerial tasks and more menial, janitorial tasks. Phase 3 (August 10- August 30) will resume a light 10 hour a week time commitment. This follow-up phase entails post-camp surveys, storage organization, emails, telephone calls, meetings, and creating thank-you packages for the purveyors who contribute to the camp. This position will offer the inimitable experience of networking with local chefs, creating strong ties with neighborhood parents and children, increasing our personal culinary skills, and developing computer and business skills.
