__Part-Time Cooking Instructor needed for daytime classes
at Correctional School in Oakland!
Job Description:
Make a difference and share your passion for soulful cooking and all things
delicious with youth! We are looking for upbeat, positive, and passionate
cooking enthusiasts to teach hands on cooking classes for emotionally
troubled youth with behavioral issues. These students have been removed from
their previous school and selected for this special-treatment, corrective,
public school. The concept of the classes of around is teaching them their
favorite comfort foods with a healthy spin, that can be replicated affordably.
This will be part of the curriculum of the school, classes will be held
during the day, and mandatory. The class size is seven kids, aged 12-14,
and you will be provided with an assistant from the school. Kids can try the
food and choose to have it instead of their school lunch-- but they will have
lunch right after. This is a very rewarding experience, as many of these kids
will thrive and find confidence in your hands-on cooking class. No formal
culinary training required, just a sincere desire to make a difference and
a love for cooking!
Time Commitment:
You will begin leading the cooking classes in January 2012 with a training
session mid December 2011. Classes will run until July 2012. Classes are
five days a week, Monday through Friday from 10:30AM-12:15PM.
Compensation:
$60 per class (Price breakdown: $50 for teaching class, $10 for transportation costs)
You can take home any leftover ingredients!
