About the GardenThe Sprouts Organic Garden, designed by Ben Eichorn (former head gardener of The Edible Schoolyard), strives to provide children with the opportunity to learn about and harvest food that Sprouts cooks with during our year-round cooking classes. Imagine planting seeds, harvesting, cooking, and enjoying food you prepare. This is the reality for the kids that participate in our organic garden; the kids really get to do everything themselves.
Throughout the year Sprouts also holds seed-to-table classes where children have the opportunity to cook in the garden alongside guest chefs such as Laurie Ellen from Tartine Bakery or gardeners such as Ben Eichorn from The Edible Schoolyard. And, as always, community service is key; our garden program is partnered with The Chaparral House- a non-profit eldercare facility- which allows the children to share their energy for food and gardening with the elderly. The children also donate a portion of their harvest to The Chaparral House so that the residents can enjoy the fruits of their hard work!
