__Culinary Instructor for Troubled Youth
Job Description:
Make a difference and share your passion for soulful cooking and nutrition
with youth! We are looking for an upbeat, gregarious cooking enthusiast
to teach monthly hands on cooking classes at a live in facility for troubled
youth. The concept of the classes is teaching youth ages 13-17 their favorite
comfort foods with a healthy spin, that can be replicated affordably and easily!
This is a very rewarding experience, as the classes are provide these kids
skills necessary for their independence and reincorporation into normal
society once they are released from the center. No formal culinary training
required - just a sincere desire to make a difference and a love for cooking!
Time Commitment:
The classes will be held twice a month, on the last Saturday of the month,
and one Sunday a month (consistent with the weeks so for example: the first
Sunday of every month, the week of your choice) The classes are casual, and
you will be provided with an assistant along with support from the staff of
the inpatient facility. Cooking classes in January 2012 with an introductory,
shadow class mid-December 2011. Classes will run until year-round.
With set up and clean up time, each class will be from 12:00pm-3:00pm, and
the actual class runs from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.
Compensation:
$40 per class (Price breakdown: $30 for teaching class, $10 for transportation costs)
You can take home any leftover ingredients!
5-10 children per class, Culinary Assistant Provided Most days. Seneca
Center Counselors will always be in attendance.
